Recent Site Updates

Here is where you can see what updates have been made to this site. As stated this site is updated on a daily basis, however minor updates will not be listed here unless other significant information is available. I still have tons of stuff to move in here, so stop back often, and don't forget to tell your friends about my site. If you use an RSS Feed reader, you can also visit My Blog to keep updated without having to keep returning here to see what is new! If you do not yet have an RSS reader, a really good and free one is available at http://www.awasu.com/

01/20/08: Since Spring is on it's way, I have been doing a lot of research getting ready to start this years garden. One of the few things that I was looking for, but could not find was a Garden Planting Guide so I created a printable one for everyone who desires a copy. This guide tells you when you should sow your seeds indoors, so that they are ready for transplanting to the garden after the Last Frost Date (LFD).

01/14/08: We have had a few great days here in Upstate New York this past week, so I got to spend some quality time in the back yard. I have been working on a new Portable Vegetable Stand and have included pictures, along with assembly instructions for those who would like to build their own.

12/09/07: Many people have been asking for a guide to Connecting to a Networked Printer, so today I have added one under the Network Talk section.

11/13/07: With all of the bashing that our Commander in Chief has been getting lately, I figured it was time to put some kind of perspective on the wars we've fought, and the position our leaders are and have been in. This includes a special insert of a speech by Senator John Glenn. Click Here to read this page.

10/29/07: I have added some information to the Internet Talk section, involving using IM chat on computers that block people from downloading the chat clients. I also added a picture of my dog Brute and some other information to My Backyard Garden Project in the DIY section.

09/29/07: Today I added a page titled "An Introduction to FTP". I put this under both the Server Talk and the Internet Talk sections, since it pertains to both of them. If you are going to build a site, you need to know how to upload it to your host's web server.

09/18/07: The MySpace Help section is now back online and fully functional. Funny how I didn't even think of adding the PHP support to the server, which should have stood out while doing the United States Dropdown Menu script for Mr. L. Stranger. It must have been shortly after completing the script, that my server went down for maintenance and was completely redone for use as a single purpose system, a/k/a to run this site only.

09/16/07: I learned this morning that my MySpace Help section was showing the code of the pages and directory, rather than the actual part all should have seen. Since this is a PHP parser error on my server, I have removed all links to that section while I try to debug the server. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. I also added some new information under the Hardware Troubleshooting Tips and Tricks section.

09/15/07: Today I updated the information on my backyard garden project, since it has been a long time in coming. You should really read this section if you haven't already, because this was a project that became a major time investment with good returns.

08/20/07: Once again it has been a very busy day here in my home office. I've added a lot of new information on troubleshooting your newly built PC on the Build Your Own PC page. I have also added An Introductory to Overclocking page under Computer Talk. As well, some proof reading errors were found and corrected throughout the site.

08/13/07: Today I added the New Credit Card Scam email excert that is believed to be based on 100% truth and fact. This is just one way that the scammers are trying to get something for free, but by no means is this the only way. We must all be vigilant in protecting our identities and credit information. I also added a great bit of information about my Backyard Garden project under the Around The Home section. At the bottom of that page is a link to another page just added that tells you what fruits and vegetables actually do for you and your health.

08/01/07: Today I added some really cool art that was sent to me from a fellow visitor. This can be found under the Chatty Kathy section.

07/31/07: Many people have more than one computer in their household, so today I decided it was time to give everyone a guide to Using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), which is a built in Windows utility. Want your grounded kids to see that you mean business, then this is a guide for you. If you have to use Dial-Up, then this is also a must read. And lastly if you want to have two or more computers connected to the Internet, this is the least expensive way to connect them.

07/23/07: Today I added a page about the best practices used when building a website, under the Internet Talk section. Using these well known techniques will not only make your site user friendly, but it also will help in your SEO. A must read for anyone who has a website, or is getting ready to create one.

07/14/07: Just spent a lot of quality time going over nearly all of the content and checking to make sure that the links still work, as well as added some more. Also corrected a lot of typographical errors to help aid in the ease of use for this site.

07/09/07: Today I have added a section in the DIY showing pictures of my backyard garden project. If you have limited room for a garden then this is a must read section for you. The in's and out's of SFG gardening with pictures and a whole lot more.

07/05/07: It has been a while since anything major has been added, atleast until today. I have just added a full eBook for everyone to read called "The Hacker Crackdown" by: Bruce Sterling. Everyone has heard about hackers, but few understand the implications of what has happened before, and what could happen in the future. This is a full book, so please be sure to bookmark the page if you are planning on returning to read it more later. Because hackers are Internet related, I have placed this under the Internet Talk section.

05/04/07: Many people have commented on Building Your Own PC under the Computer Talk section, as not being in enough detail for a novice. So to please everyone I have upgraded this part of the site to give a fully documented version of what you need to know to not only purchase the parts, but also a full description of the assembly process. This is a must read if you are planning on building or buying a new system. I also updated the Troubleshooting section to give a more in depth look at symptoms and causes, since that was an area that has been needing a major overhaul for some time.

05/03/07: Other than minor tweaks lately, not much has changed. Today I added Extreme Geek Toys to the Computer Talk section. Got a geek in your life, here are a few hints of things they might like. Many of the items I showcased are not popularly known to even exist.

04/11/07: Well it has been a bit since I last posted any updates here. But as stated, I will only post it if it is significant to the site. Small changes (tweaking) is always going on behind the scenes. My newest addition comes to you in the Network Talk section, where I just added Using Peer2Peer Networking. If you've ever wondered what all of this talk about "Please share your bittorrent invite, etc." this will help answer your questions.

03/19/07: Today I decided to stop procastinating on cleaning up the Internet Talk section. I decided to remove all unnecessary banners, and spend a bit more effort on detailing what each page is for.

03/17/07: Today is the day for making changes that the average layman should appreciate. Things like the definitions of the hexidecimal system and HTML. The first is a rather technical look at this computer coding system, located at the bottom of the color chooser chart. The second is a description of the HyperText Markup Language, and why we use it to create a webpage. Both of these are in the Internet Talk section.

03/16/07: I added a section called "Internet Hazards for Kids" to the Internet Talk section of using Internet Chat and IM's. This is a parental must read! I also added the Using Transitions in IE under the Internet Talk section to show how to do cool page affects easily. These will be incorporated into this site at a later date.

03/12/07: Really I haven't been gone for the past 8 days, just working on a new creation for my area. Check it out at www.CortlandOnline.org A local business and services directory, and local history site. As for here, I have added a sitemap and ror file generator for search engine optimization.

03/04/07: Okay, still can't walk well, and sitting is a problem. Never the less, the work must go on ;-P I am always being asked what is the best way to create a drop down menu for websites. So today I created my own javascript variation that will allow you to input your information, and a menu will be automatically generated including the code needed to display it on your site.

02/27/07: Today I got ran over by a utility trailer and can not sit at my computer, so updates are on hold until I can bend my leg again. Please be patient and check back in about a week. Thanks for your continued support.

02/26/07: Today I added a new Guide to Viruses, Worms, Trojans, and other attacks under Internet Talk. Basically this covers the threats in use today, and what we all need to do to protect ourselves from being vulnerable. While writing this, I realised just how much of an eye opener this topic really is for the uninitiated. I have many other guides coming soon, so be sure to stop back often. I also added a new SiteMap with links to it at the bottom of all pages. If you are in a hurry, or just want to see how big this site is getting, check it out. Who knows, you may find stuff here, that you didn't know was on my site. Just another way to help tame the beast...lol

02/24/07: Okay, now it is time to start things rolling in a great way for you, my visitors. I could just beg and plead to get everyone to sign up for my Newsletter, but that would be hopeless, let alone annoying. So instead, because I want to tell you what changes are being made, and I want you to come back, I am giving away a 100% Free (including shipping!) T-Shirt. This hopefully is the first among many items that I want to give away to help promote my site. I promise that the Newsletter will only be mailed once every 60 days or more. I do not like Spam, and I will not send out Spam. Check out this quality made custom printed T-Shirt, and take your chance on it Today! Chances of winning are 1 in 100!

02/23/07: Many novices have asked about what is involved with reformatting a computer's hard drive. I have touched upon this subject, (under Computer Talk) just to give some idea of what is involved. This is a must read for anyone thinking of resetting their system to factory standards. I will add more to this section in the future to include some serious do's and dont's!

02/22/07: Once again I have had a rather busy morning here searching for new stuff, and making site changes to reflect them. I will try to recap on these, but not all changes may be noted here. First under the Internet Talk section I added a lot of cool stuff to the HTML Tags page. Now there is a javascript added to show how to use all tags, as well as a way to test them to see if they are going to do what you expect or wish from them. To do this I added a page generator which interprets the code then displays the results next to it. I also am giving away the tricks I use to maintain such a high Yahoo!Answers rating of over 70%. Under my PHP US Drop Menu, I added a US Inmate Lookup, as well as State Trivia.

02/20/07: Today I added a section on buying and repairing printers and ink cartridges. This is a must read for anyone wanting to buy their first printer. It is also helpful for those who have considered refilling their own ink cartridges. It explains the differences as well between Inkjet, LaserJet, and BubbleJet.

02/18/07: Today I have added a few technical touches to the site. The first being that the main entry page will now show the current holiday or the next holiday, including pictures that represent those holidays. I also added a new link to the Server Talk section, as well as explain why this link is important. File synchronization is a definite need for many people and today I found a free program that works seemlessly in the background for backing up the files on my server. Now if I have to take my main server off-line, I have a backup one with all of the same files, so that I can keep this site operating, regardless of the need to do server maintenance. Hence two computers with the exact same software and files.

02/15/07: Today I added the CrownPC's Support Group. This is an exclusive group of visitors who found this site helpful enough to want to donate to my cause. Watch as this group grows as the content will grow right along side of each donation received. Many other insignificant changes were made as well in the past few days. We are snowed in here in NY, so I have been putting plenty of time into tweaking the site and adding more content.

02/11/07: Thanks to Howard Funk of HLFunk consulting services, I added padding to all of my pages to keep the text away from the borders. I was planning on doing this soon anyway, he just gave me the incentive to not procrastinate any longer. I added "Bored at Wal-Mart", this is funny, and can maybe give others some ideas? Hope not! I also replaced the "text to enter" with a graphical button to make it easier to find. Thanks to anyone who makes meaningful suggestions, as Mr. Funk can see, I changed every page after receiving his thoughts on the subject within just an hour or so.

02/09/07: Today I have added about 30 more uses for Baking Soda and 20 or so more Home Remedies in the DIY section. I also have added a contact me link to every page, so you can contact me without looking for the links.

02/08/07: It's funny how someone can ask for the simplest thing, and hours of searching the internet can turn up nothing useful at all. I pride myself in being able to find the unusual, and yet still some stuff just can't be found. An asker wanted a printable checkbook registry to use until they got a new one from the bank. Easy enough right? Wrong! I just spent some quality time creating one for anyone else who desires a copy. I also added a diagram to the Building a Laundry Chute page to show the actual construction.

02/07/07: This has been a busy morning here. I have been promising free books and such for sometime, but have had little time to find anything significant. This morning that has all changed. Each page has had information added in regards to a site I found that offers many (about 300) free books that you can read online or download. I started by listing them under Computer Talk simply because most of them are computer related. But then I dug in and got lost in the reading, and found that there are books on all kinds of neat stuff. I will try to find more sites like this one in the near future, and post links to them.

02/06/07: Today significant changes were made in the base coding of this site to make it 100% XHTML compliant. I appologize to anyone who may have stumbled onto the site while these changes were being made. Things got a little messed up while implimenting these new standards. Simple Search and Replace which can be found in the Chatty Kathy & Friends section, under Our Favorite Downloads page 1 was a great help for making these site wide changes. I also added the Pico Keyword search box to help people find the information the seek without having to fully browse this site. It is slowly growing into a monster, and this is the only way I could find to help tame this beast.

02/04/07: Today all pages that are a part of the site have been reformatted and changed to be exactly the same. The type size and spacing were enlarged for easier reading. I added this section to help those watching this site, to see what it is I am doing here all day, rather than make them search each page for changes. I have also updated the DIY Tips with some really useful information.
